RECENT publications1–4 indicate that when blood comes into contact with glass, Factor XII
is adsorbed and in turn adsorbs Factor XI. Much of the resulting 'activation product'can be
recovered from, the adsorbing surface1, 3, but other indirect evidence shows that
measurable amounts are released4–7.
